About the Event

Course Overview:

This course is an addendum to a program of assisted stretching called Integrative Stretching (IS). The goal of IS is to provide personal trainers, coaches, massage therapists, fitness professionals, movement therapists, and bodyworkers with an extra set of techniques and skills geared towards improving functional movements of their clients through assisted stretching and soft-tissue manipulation techniques.  This particular course takes IS principles and techniques to the next level by utilizing more advanced flexibility training methods in order to promote greater active range of motion. The sequences, drills, techniques, and exercises taught in this course will prepare participants to work with clients with varying needs, including those who are very limited in their mobility to those who need to perform  more advanced level such as for athletics.  You'll be able to incorporate this material as well for anyone looking for a more well rounded flexibility training and movement practice.

Learning Outcomes:

Students will demonstrate a competency in assisting another person performing active and passive stretches.      

Students will demonstrate sufficient care and consideration when making hands-on assists with others who are stretching.    

Students will demonstrate a proficiency and making assessments of others on where to isolate stretches used in order to promote the desired goal/outcome.  

Students will demonstrate proficiency in safely supporting clients through otherwise challenging positions of stretching and strengthening.      

Students will be able to identify key points along kinetic chain that need to be addressed through flexibility/mobility exercises in order to enhance the performance of a desired movement.    

Students will demonstrate an ability to incorporate the steps to integrative stretching into their current personal/professional practices.    

Students will demonstrate an understanding and awareness of stretches that safely and effectively address limitations in the shoulder girdle.    

Students will demonstrate an understanding and awareness of stretches that safely and effectively address limitations in the hip rotators and hamstrings.    

Students will demonstrate an understanding and awareness of stretches that safely and effectively address limitations in the hip flexors and quadriceps.    

Students will demonstrate an understanding and awareness of stretches that safely and effectively address limitations in the arms, wrists, and muscles of the forearm.    

Students will demonstrate an understanding and awareness of stretches that safely and effectively address limitations in the knees, ankles, and muscles of the lower leg.    

Students will demonstrate an understanding and awareness of stretches that safely and effectively address limitations in the axial body.    

Students will demonstrate a proficiency in guiding others through basic spinal motions and addressing limitations in flexion, extension, lateral flexion, and rotation.      

Students will be able to effectively strategize an assisted stretching session/massage for a client or group towards a desire goal.    

Students will be able to identify contraindications and potential hazards to flexibility training and share those considerations with a client in order to promote a safe environment.      

Students will be able to take a stretch technique and present a form of it that can be suitable for any level of practitioner, from the most basic to the most advanced.     

Students will be able to modify stretches to fit the needs of an individual client with special needs.      

Students will demonstrate a proficiency in their own stretching practice that shows creativity, adaptation, progress, efficiency, and progress towards certain goals/outcomes.    

Students will be able to safely and effectively assist clients through the a number of different active and passive stretching positions.     

Students will demonstrate an awareness of how to market assisted stretching sessions to clients who are receiving bodywork and/or are simply pursuing more mobility.      

Students will demonstrate an understanding of how stretching works and what happens when we stretch, at a physiological level, and be able to explain the currently accepted theories to others.      

Students will demonstrate a proficiency in being able to guide others with assisted stretching towards specific goals.

CE Credit:

21 Hours of Continuing Education approved by the NCBTMB.
